Our Story
I've never liked being kept on a leash.
How a Belgian musician ended up building a flat head safety razor.
01
Before the razor, there was the stage. As a Belgian musician, I spent years playing shows and rehearsing, on nights when every detail mattered.
Off stage, you'll find me at the gym. I'm hooked on it. I train a mix of bodybuilding and calisthenics: heavy iron in the morning, bodyweight work until the muscles give out. And anyone who trains knows the truth: hair hides the work. Shave it off, and under the gym lights, every striation you earned finally shows.
Stage or gym, same rule. You want to look sharp. So you shave close. Face, head, chest. And the next morning, you pay for it.
Redness. Razor burn. Razor bumps. For years, I thought the problem was my skin.
02
Then one day, I was standing over the bathroom trash.
Another cartridge. Paid way too much for it. Tossed after a handful of shaves. And one question I couldn't shake: why do we accept this?
We keep paying more for something designed to end up in the trash. We stay loyal to one handle because the refills only fit that one. That's not a choice. That's a system. And I've always had a problem with systems that lock you in.
03
So I tried something else.
A safety razor. One blade. No subscription. No proprietary refills.
The first few weeks were rough. I nicked myself. I got irritated. But something had shifted: for the first time, I understood what was actually happening on my skin. And I had no intention of going back.
04
Then it clicked.
Shave after shave, the way you rehearse a song, I figured it out. The secret wasn't pressing harder. It was the opposite.
A blade held at about 30 degrees. A flat head that holds it there for you. You stop forcing it. You just guide it.
It was never my skin. It was the pressure.

Building the razor I was looking for.
I wanted a razor that made that motion feel natural from the very first pass. I worked with a technical team to develop it, detail by detail, the way you mix a track until it sounds just right.
Three rules:
Functional
A flat head that holds the blade at 30 degrees.
Approachable
A tool you pick up with confidence, not hesitation.
Beautiful
Something you leave out by the sink, not hide in a drawer.
06
What CRAN. stands for.
No subscription. No proprietary refills. CRAN. takes any standard double edge safety razor blade, sold at most drugstores and online for a few cents each. Buy the razor once. After that, you're in control.
07
That became CRAN.
In French, cran means nerve. The kind it takes to put a real blade to your skin for the first time. It also means a notch. As in, one notch up.
One razor. One blade. More control.
